Merrill holding his pet or lunch. These red swamp crayfish were introduced to the islands in 1923 into taro patches near Ahuimanu Stream. These critters best belong in a gumbo pot. Where is Akira when you need him?

My lack of balance resulted in an awkward spill on the side of the highway. Thanks to Akira, Dale and Lilia for picking us up and shuttling us back to the house. Our fun filled and waterlogged hike covered 1.12 miles with good friends.

Cantu Hale

Somebody wanted to try out my meta glasses. Video! It’s not your birthday Matt. Go get your own glasses. Aida, Dale, Kim, Matt, Roseann and KYC friends joined us at the house for the ono potluck.

Cantu Hale

The potluck spread of banana cream pie, chili, chocolate cupcakes, corky’s bbq pork, dim sum, enchiladas, pansit, pasta salad, pinakbet, salt vinegar chicken, sourdough bread, oxtail soup and many others that filled our tummies and our takeout containers. Kanak attack. Don’t let Matt the sleep stalker catch you.

No, the leaves are not edible.

We all wished Chico happy birthday. That joint candle is not real either btw. He is living proof that age is just a number. Many happy returns of the day from your friends and family.

Cantu Hale

Most of us retired upstairs to play LCR game and Dale hauled in the biggest pot to date. $78. Somebody could have used that money for their tow truck funds. Mahalo to everybody that came and participated in some form or fashion to celebrate Chico’s birthday. Thanks especially to Lilia for being the gracious host.

Note: I have been made aware that some hikers have been using my blog as a hiking guide and getting lost on the trails. Please note that this blog was made to document the hike for the crew(s) that did it. That is why some of my comments will seem to have no relevance or meaning to anybody outside of the crew(s) that hiked that trail. My blog was never meant as a hiking guide, so please do not treat it as such. If you find inspiration and entertainment from these hikes, that is more than enough. If you plan on replicating these hikes, do so in the knowledge that you should do your own research accordingly as trail conditions, access, legalities and so forth are constantly in flux. What was current today is most likely yesterdays news. Please be prepared to accept any risks and responsibilities on your own as you should know your own limitations, experience and abilities before you even set foot on a trail, as even the “simplest” or “easiest” of trails can present potential pitfalls for even the most “experienced” hikers. One should also always let somebody know of your hiking plans in case something doesn’t go as planned, better safe than sorry.
