Probation Falls

Hiking Probation Falls

We joined the HTMC members only hike where ignorance is not bliss and leads one down the path to probation.

Who is on probation again? And is that double secret probation? Photo by Chris Bautista.

Trailhead

Trailhead

We parked our carpooled vehicles at an undisclosed location and disappeared into the bushes to start our hike.

Some folks were expecting a walk in the park.

Stream crossing

They were even under the impression it could be done in slippers as well.

Trail

Trail

Somebody had the hike confused with another trail that started with the same consonant. Don’t worry, she’ll get it right on the next hike.

Dam

Dam

The water level was not spilling over the dam, so the club deemed it safe to continue hiking on the trail.

Stream crossing

Rock hopping our way across the stream.

Single filing our way through the corridor of strawberry guava trees.

Our last stream crossing where only one pair of hiker’s shoes remained dry at the end. Sally Chow.

Is that Janell or Yoly plucking the low hanging guava fruits? Stolen hat identity.

I had designated 1200 as the turnaround time, so the cries of “let’s continue” fell on my deaf ears. I turned around, while the rest continued ahead to find the waterfall. Photo by Yoly Bedford.

Waterfalls

Waterfalls

Chris, Ferlino and Yoly met up again with Steve who had pulled away from the group and had surged ahead on the trail, hoping to find a second waterfall beyond the first one. No such luck. Photo by Yoly Bedford.

Fun is over. Time to go back. Somebody is on probation. Photo by Yoly Bedford.

Tunnel

Tunnel

Dale and others had the leisure of time to explore tunnels along the trail on our way back to the cars. Yoly made it back to our cars one minute before 1400. Talk about cutting it close. Probationary status secured.

All pau

All pau

Our hike covered 18.5 miles, where most of the mileage was chewed up by our cars, through harder than expected terrain and refreshing waters. Post hike meal at Uncle Bo’s Pupu Bar & Grill, where paying with one credit card garnishes all the miles at the expense of others.

Note: I have been made aware that some hikers have been using my blog as a hiking guide and getting lost on the trails. Please note that this blog was made to document the hike for the crew(s) that did it. That is why some of my comments will seem to have no relevance or meaning to anybody outside of the crew(s) that hiked that trail. My blog was never meant as a hiking guide, so please do not treat it as such. If you find inspiration and entertainment from these hikes, that is more than enough. If you plan on replicating these hikes, do so in the knowledge that you should do your own research accordingly as trail conditions, access, legalities and so forth are constantly in flux. What was current today is most likely yesterdays news. Please be prepared to accept any risks and responsibilities on your own as you should know your own limitations, experience and abilities before you even set foot on a trail, as even the “simplest” or “easiest” of trails can present potential pitfalls for even the most “experienced” hikers.

Thank you. Hope you were there to climb the waterfall. You were so close! I hope one day I’ll have the chance to join the club to ease the pressure and contribute to the good things they do.

Aloha Ferlino,
Yah, I missed the water works but I had to secure my probationary status! I thought you were a member already!
